Reflections on the IVLP 2024: Climate Crisis – Working Together for Future Generations

I am honored to have participated in the prestigious International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) 2024, organized by the U.S. Department of State. This three-week journey, from September to October 2024, took us across Washington, DC, Boston, Reno, and Miami, providing a comprehensive platform to explore innovative approaches to addressing the climate crisis and building a sustainable future for generations to come.

Throughout the program, I had the privilege of engaging with thought leaders, policymakers, environmental experts, and fellow changemakers who are deeply committed to climate action. Each city offered unique insights: Washington, DC emphasized global climate policy and advocacy; Boston showcased cutting-edge technological innovations in clean energy; Reno, with its Desert Research Institute, deepened our understanding of climate science and environmental resilience; and Miami brought us face to face with the urgent need for adaptation in coastal communities.

What stood out most was the shared recognition that climate change is not just an environmental issue, but a social one. It disproportionately affects indigenous, marginalized communities, including women and girls, and exacerbates existing inequalities. This realization strongly aligns with the organization’s mission to uplift Dalit women and other marginalized groups in Nepal, ensuring their voices are heard in the climate dialogue.

Participating in IVLP 2024 has inspired me to integrate these learnings into the organization’s ongoing work, particularly in the areas of women’s leadership in climate resilience and sustainable development. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and look forward to fostering greater international collaboration to secure a safer, greener present and future for all.
