As part of celebratory events for 16 Days of Activism to Stop Violence against Women, FEDO organized the interaction program regarding the violence against the Dalit women and its effect with the remembrance of 16 Days of Activism against the Gender Violence campaign with the slogan, ‘Peace at home is the foundation of world peace – A protest to eliminate violence against women" at Kathmandu district on 7 December 2012. This program has been organized with the vision of awaking the people against the violence against women and bringing the revolution.
FEDO have been organizing this program once in a year. Several people including civil society, representatives of the organization and other members were presented in the program. The acquired issues, suggestions and essence were discussed and presented in front of the concerned people and all the members present over there.
The program was organized in FEDO Hall were approx. 60 participants were presented. During the program, President of the National Women’s Commission, Shekh Chand Tara, spoke about how religion remains a key issue in allowing the continuance of violence against women. She explained how issues and beliefs reinforced by religion, surrounding hierarchy and caste, perpetuate violence against Dalit women. The President of FEDO Durga Sob also spoke about the difficulty in accessing justice for Dalit women although Dalit women are registered with the National Women’s Commission, access to them to justice remains low.
Likewise, the several guest present there gave their own perception regarding the issue. Overall the program helped to make a commitment from the related agencies with regard to ending the violence against Dalit Women.
