Kathmandu, August 10, The United Political Dalit Struggle Committee, Dalits Lawmaker's Coordination Forum, Dalits Civil Society Organizations have handed over a memorandum on Monday to Prime Minister Sushil Koirala Demanding Dalit rights, ongoing nationwide protest and disagreement with draft constitution.

Receiving the memorandum in Baluwatar, PM Koirala urged them to discuss other matters in draft constitution. Korala said if they started an agitation it could benefit anti-change force. Prime Minister Sushil Koiral said that the rights of Dalit Community would be protected in new constitution. He urged them not to start agitation as their rights would be secured in the constitution.

PM Koirala, said that role of Dalits was significant in Nepal's democratic movement and added that discussion was underway on how to represent Dalit in all sectosr of the state mechanism.

'We are serious on issues of the Dalit, we will address the issues that have been left out' PM Koirala assured.

Koirala said them has no dispute in the Constituent Assembly and among the political parties on the issues of the community, Koirala assured of a provision in which Dalit Could directly contest the polls instead of only having their name in proportional representation. PM Koiral also directed to release the protesters who were arrested in Baglung.

Feminist Dalist leader Durga Sov said that PM was serious on the issues and struggle of Dalits. But she said that the protesters will be held regularly until the government addresses the demands and ensure Dalits right in the constitution.
