Kathmandu, August 24, Dalit women delegation of the Feminist Dalit Organization (FEDO) visited to different parts of India to share the knowledge of experiences.
The delegation reached to several Gujarat villages and met different representatives of concerning parts. Mainly consisting of members of the FEDO, those who gave information on the condition of Dalits, especially women, included Durga Sob President of FEDO, RenuSijapati Senior executive member, LaxmiNeupane and RajendraTamrakarProgramm Coordinators from FEDO, and NirmalAdhikari, a journalist.
While pointing towards how Dalit women are victims of two types of oppression – untouchability from dominant caste people and domestic violence – it was suggested that the condition of Dalits remains poor despite nine percent reservation in the government within the 45 per cent overall reservation for vulnerable sections of the Nepalese population.
As part of its purpose, the team held a meeting with different social leaders, social activists, officials and other concerned persons likewise Dalit Shakti Kendra, Schedule caste commission representative Ahmedabad in India.
FEDO has been working in the field of women rights and their participation in politics with the assistance of international agencies.
