The Feminist Dalit Organization (FEDO) is a Nepal-based non-profit, apolitical, and secular non governmental organization founded in 1994 by a group of Dalit women driven by a passion to eliminate caste and gender-based discrimination. Operating for almost three decades already, it is the pioneer organization to advocate in parallel Dalit women’s rights and broader Dalit rights.
With a vision of a ‘just and equitable society’, FEDO puts Dalit women at the core of its initiatives, recognizing them as rights holders equally entitled to live with dignity. The organization works on two levels: empowering Dalit communities and similarly marginalized groups (horizontal) and advocating duty bearers to take deliberate action on Dalit women’s issues (vertical). Centered on a human rights-based approach, FEDO’s interventions focus on five strategic pillars:
- Economic Empowerment
- Leadership and Participation
- Human Rights and Access to Justice
- Inclusive Governance & Social Justice
- Gender-responsive Humanitarian assistance
